Speaker Wire

Speaker wire is something that has really changed through the years, and for once I can truthfully say for the better. Speaker wire years ago was a thin copper wire that for the most part did the job it was meant to do. The real question though is did we get our money's worth and was that sound that great. The answer to both questions is a resounding no. The thin copper wire sometimes would work itself loose and you would have to move it out and reconnect it. If you had a heavy stereo you know what a hassle this became. The wire was thin so it was easy to hide, but still a hassle to deal with. Fast forward to modern times and speaker wire has sure changed alot. Speaker wire has been replaced with speaker cable and boy what a difference it has made in the listening sound of stereos and other things.

Speaker cable has replaced the speaker wire for a number of different reasons and let's look at those right now. Speaker cable has been connections so you never really have to worry about a loose connection like you did with speaker wire. Speaker cable also lets your sound quality come through alot more as you can use better cable that will deliver crisp sounding music every time. Now I will admit speaker cable does cost more, but in the long run it's worth it. Speaker cables though are coming down in price as speaker wire is basically being phase out so eventually everything will be cable which in the end is probably best for everyone concerned.

Other advantages of speaker cable over speaker wire is it's alot harder to cut and less chance you will have a break through your system. Speaker wire did have the problem that sometimes it would have a break in it and you would lose sound quality and sometimes the connection. Nothing is more irritating than losing your music for awhile. Speaker wire is dying a slow death just like the VCR and other things we grew up with. Out with the old and in with the new is something we should always remember I guess. I know people may not like change, but in this instance it's a very good thing if you ask me for us music lovers.
