LCD TV

LCD TV first started to be strongly developed and sold in the years right after the turn of the millennium. What is an LCD TV? LCD stands for liquid crystal diode. Liquid crystal diodes are a special kind of substance that changes opacity (the degree to which the material blocks light) when an electric current is applied to it. The cells of the LCD are arranged so that such crystals are in front of red, green and blue light sources. By changing the intensity of the current that is applied to the liquid crystals in front of each light source, it is possible to control the mix of red, green and blue and get whatever kind of color you want.

The most popular LCD TV brands include the Samsung LCD TV, Sharp LCD TV, Sony LCD TV, Vizio LCD TV and LG LCD TV. When LCD televisions were first released for sale at the turn of the millennium they had some problems in comparison with plasma televisions: the image could only be clearly seen from a low angle or from straight in front of the television screen, and the pictures could not update quite fast enough - at times when a lot of action was taking place on the screen 'ghosting' would be displayed when the old images didn't disappear soon enough to make the movement seem crisp. During the years since then LCD TV has gotten much better. Now these problems are a thing of the past.

Some of the most common sizes for LCD TVs are a 20" LCD TV, 32" LCD TV and 37" LCD TV. Up until very recently it was impossible for LCD TVs to go up above forty inches. In the upper size range plasma screens had the best performance and price. However, LCD TV technology has now progressed beyond plasma and as any LCD TV review and LCD TV ratings site will tell you, one can get an LCD TV of greater size than forty inches with an LCD TV stand that costs less than a same-size plasma TV. The best LCD TV screens that you can read about in LCD TV reviews also solve the problems that plasma screens have with glare when lights shine off the screen. LCD TV stands as one of the most used technologies in digital television today, and with the upcoming switch to all digital broadcasting, more and more people will be using LCD TV.
