Convergence

Convergence when it applies to the world of television is commonly used to stand for two things. First, convergence refers to the combination of various types of media; for example, modern TV convergence home entertainment systems such as a Sony TV convergence system, Panasonic TV convergence system, Hitachi TV convergence system and so on. These kinds of entertainment systems bring together music, movies, video games and more. Usually they do this by being centered around some kind of home computer with enough processing power to run all of these types of applications as well as standard computer programs.

The other meaning of convergence that many may be more aware of is the convergence adjustment on a TV that helps you to make sure your TV doesn't fall out of convergence. In the back of a cathode ray tube style television are three color projectors that trace lines of color onto the screen. If these three get out of alignment then the image on the screen will become blurry as the areas of color are separated farther and farther apart. This isn't just an issue with standard back projection style television sets (rear projection TV convergence); projection TV convergence (aka front projection TV convergence) can also be an issue. Repair of convergence on a projection TV can be as simple as activating a self-repair program (if you have an auto convergence rear projection TV); however some convergence problems with televisions may require going to a repair store to fix if they are too extreme and you cannot get them fixed by using the diagnostic and manual adjustment options for your television or projector menu.

How to do dynamic convergence with a Sony TV: If you have a Sony TV convergence problem, you can adjust your Sony projection TV convergence using the convergence option under the image adjustment menu. Depending on what model of Sony TV you have, it may also be possible for you to do the convergence automatically by starting up a program that brings the red, green and blue projectors back into alignment automatically. Either of these options will make your picture clearer by bringing the pixels on your screen which may be drifting apart into threes back together again. With the red, green and blue dots reunited you will have a nice crisp image that is well defined and easy to recognize for watching all of your favorite TV shows in style.
