Contrast

Define TV dynamic contrast ratio: The television contrast ratio is one of the specifications of a television's image quality that is used as a selling point by TV manufacturers and advertisers. What is a TV contrast ratio? The contrast ratio of a TV is the ratio between the luminosity (or brightness) of the brightest part of the screen compared to the luminosity of the darkest part of the screen. Theoretically the luminosity could be infinite if any point on the screen were perfectly dark - in practice, the light emitters in the back of a television almost always release some residual light even through the darkened areas. The TV contrast ratios as most commonly recorded are between five hundred to one and eight hundred to one, although new types of televisions offer more competitive contrast ratios.

Television contrast dynamic vs native: The difference between a normal TV contrast ratio (or static contrast ratio / native contrast ratio) and the TV dynamic contrast ratio is very simple: one is the ratio between the brightest and least bright parts of the screen when the image on the television screen is static, and the other is the ratio between the brightest and the least bright when the image is changing. The dynamic contrast ratio is the bigger of the two (in other words, there can be more of a difference in brightness over time) so it is the one that is most frequently used by advertisers to give people the most attractive sense of the quality of a television's picture.

LCD TV contrast ratio numbers and plasma TV contrast levels have to be considered somewhat differently. In the case of LCD TV contrast ratio definition, it is impossible for the black areas of the screen to ever be completely dark because of the nature of the design - so there is always a LCD television contrast ratio (this is the problem of contrast in LCD TV, even though there may be 10,000:1 contrast LCD TV sets). When it comes to plasma television, however, the dark parts of the screen do not emit any light at all. This means that it becomes nonsensical to talk about the contrast radio for a plasma TV set. Among the contrast ratios of those TV sets that have them, such as the Mitsubishi LCD TV contrast ratio for most Mitsubishi screens, the contrast ratio can be up to TV 10000 - 1 contrast. While the contrast ratio isn't the only thing you should look at to decide on a new television set, it can be an important part of your search for the best possible image quality.
